More Tall Ships

These are the vessels we've had the honor of sailing upon, or crewing with.

PILGRIM OF NEWPORT (In 2001 this vessel was sold, and renamed "The Spirit of Dana Point") - For 13 years this schooner slowly took shape in the yard of Dennis Holland, in Newport Beach. With help from his wife Betty, and their friends, she was finally launched in 1983. She has been recently bought by Wade & Susan Hall. With Wade's brother Whit at the helm, and Gary Harper and Jon Rose on the gun crew, she is much to be reckoned with. She has seen many a Buccaneer's Day at Catalina Island, and well is she accustomed to pirates crawling about her decks. Here she is seen with her sails backlit by the setting sun, at the recent "Clash of the TallShips II" (Long Beach, CA, Jan. 1998). Behind her is the Swift of Ipswich. She was recently seen in the A&E SEA TALES segment "Blackbeard's Reign of Terror".

THE PRIVATEER - Though only 15'11", this small vessel is a real working top-sail schooner. She is willing and able to carry up to 6 adult buccaneers at a time, as you can see Michael MacLeod, Louis, Philistina d'Morte, and a few other Port Royal Privateers aboard. Contact: Privateer Shipbuilding, 17705 Crabb Ln., Huntington Beach, CA 92647, (714) 841-4091

WITCH OF WOOD - She's the very vision of a pirate vessel. With Captain Stan Pietrucki at the helm of this square-rigged schooner, other vessels must beware. She is fast, and carries many cannons. Despite her battle-readiness, her appointments below decks are lavish and comfortable. Shown here, she is firing upon the shore batteries, during the Gold Coast Pirate Festival in Ventura, CA. Lately returned from the Florida coast, she now operates out of San Francisco Bay, though they often visit S. Calif. (510) 689-0757.

CALIFORNIAN - The revenue cutter Californian is THE official Tallship of California. In last year's big sea battle, she took the part of the good guys, along with the Swift of Ipswich, defending the harbor against the invading privateers. Shown here (on the left), she is exchanging broadside attacks with the Lady Washington. She is owned by the Nautical Heritage Society, traveling up and down the California coast, giving youth and adults the chance to experience tallship sailing.

STAR OF INDIA - Though rather later in period, this iron-hulled barque is willing to be host to the Port Royal Privateers, many times per year. She is one of the oldest vessels still afloat and actively sailing, and is distinct in having gone around the Horn 21 times, more than any other vessel, ever. Shown here during her last sail, in August 1996, the crew is setting sail. She is now berthed in San Diego, at the San Diego Maritime Museum.

No don't you go piratin' any written material, graphics or photos from the "NO QUARTER GIVEN" website without permission.
Unauthorized use is illegal, immoral, and can lead to other anti-social behaviours.
Besides - stealin' from a bunch of pirates is not a very smart thing to do!
