Jamaica Rose,

The Halifax event was quite a success. I attach an image of part of the 20-boat flotilla approaching the Landing docks for the ceremony. There were 42 'tall ships' present as well. Quite a few pirate brethren and sisters were in evidence!

Yours aye,
Vic Suthren Canada

Dearest Jamaica Rose,

... "The Pirates of Guilford Lake" have once again taken first place in the annual 4th of July boat parade! Now, it seems that the lake is "haunted" by the ominous "Gillfy",...."The Guilford lake Monster"! While being "dragged behind" during the parade,..."Gillfy" is totally independent of the pirate ship. He squirts water, yells and hollers,...he even went up to the commodore of the lake, and blew lake water all over his dry dinner pants!!!!

"Gillfy" has become a sensation around here now, and is most likely spotted during the morning hours, or late at night, usually found around the island areas, or out in front of the restaurants. Many a pirate/sea monster battle have ensued here. Our cannons have yet to bring the behemoth to destruction. We will chase Gillfy around the lake, and at least we have all of the lake residents' dogs on our side..for some reason, the dogs around the lake just go crazy when they see the monster. But the people just love the monster, and I think finally, for the first time in 3 years, Gillfy is the most photographed entity in this area.

Around here, sometimes it's "The Pirates",...sometimes, it's just "The Monster",....sometimes, it's BOTH!!!!

May we all fly under one flag!!!

"August 8th through 11th, the wee village of Steveston (outside Vancouver) hosted the Tall Ships, after the city of Vancouver declined them. Over 400,000 people attended and it was a resounding success. The Lady Washington, Hawaiian Chieftain, The Nina, and Europa (behind me in attatched pic) , were among the 20 registered ships to attend, along with plenty of other great looking craft who showed up just for fun. Myself was on hand to fire a salute to welcome them in as they made Sandheads beacon. How often do ya get a ghance to fire on one of Her Majesties' frigates? (this case being our HMCS Yellowknife).
