Now let me tell you about the BEST reaction I've ever had when in garb! After last year's event, I was inspired by the comments o' a few lasses to write about the proper wearin' o' bodices [NQG March 2001]. In order to provide a proper example, one day when I was in "wench" garb, rather than "pirate" garb (there is a BIG difference), I had me bodice laced up at it's tightest, and my "gals" were at their highest, and barely hanging in there (if ya know what I mean). I was strollin' down the lane, unescorted, when an older gentleman passed me by on his wheeled contrivance. He looked over his shoulder back at me. He then did a double take, looking back again -- a little longer this time. Then yet, a triple take -- I noticed his handlebars were a little askew, and he started veering off a bit. During his fourth look back over his shoulder, the bicycle ran up the curb, and smack into the newspaper stands! At first I thought he was hurt, cuz he was shakin' and convulsing something fierce. But it turns out he was just laughing. I told him that was the best reaction I ever got. Then he made some comment that I had "beautiful eyes". (At least, I think that's what he said).
So, now, that you've heard an example of the power o' the bodice, let me introduce you to some of the bodices (and their accompanying cleavage) seen at the Pirates in Paradise Festival 2001 . . .

A bodice is a very useful thing -- it
can hold a lot of things, keeping them handy for quick access.
(She is Charity --one of the harlots Love, Faith and Charity.)

See -- what'd I tell you?? ... handy
for quick access. This pirate is about to get a quick bite.
(Roxanne Noles and Mark Miller)

The Bank of Bodice!!
(again -- one of the harlots - this one is Love)

This is known at bodice-diving!
(Jane, wife of Boats of the Corsairs, and Mark Miller)

Bodices don't have to hold anything
other than what they were originally intended for.
Julie O'Neil -- second in command at the Pirates in Paradise Festival
Bodices are useful for attracting
attention.
(Another of the Harlots, -- Faith -- but she was
nicknamed "Garter Girl". The green thing on her shoulder is a
sticker for the Mel Fisher Museum)

See ... didn't I tell you a bodice
could keep many things handy??
(This is me -- Jamaica Rose, and my good captain, Michael MacLeod)
