The tower of the Cathedrel St. Jago de la Vega in Spanish Town

A monument inside the church.

The stained windows inside the church.  In the center of the design is the Jamaican Coat of Arms.

Spanish Town Square
The Kings House is on the left, the Rodney Memorial is on the right.

The Assembly House

The Burned out Court House
This is not the court house where John Rackham, Anne Bonny and Mary Read were tried.
This one was built in 1816

The Memorial Plaque at the Spanish Town Square

A Jamaican Critter
Can you figure out what kind of critter is here?

A corner of the Spanish Town Square
The steps of the King's House are on the left (the Emancipation Proclamation was read from these steps).  The Jamaican Archives are located just behind the white building on the right.

The Jail behind the Courthouse
Might this be the jail where Anne Bonny and Mary Read were kept after their tryal?

Another view of the jail shaded by a huge mango tree.

The house across the street from the jail.

One of the residents of the above house.

This house (same as above) is the local meeting place for the Boy Scouts.

Island Record Office
This is where you can see Sir Henry Morgan's will.

The dome over the Rodney Memorial

This lady was selling mangoes from her door step.

She let us take pictures of her because she'd been to the U.S. before where she met many generous people.

We saw these type of notices many places.

The gates into the old Barracks
Notice the upturned cannons guarding the gate.

A local street vendor who didn't let us take his photo until we bought something from him.

Omar Brooks standing in the doorway to his home

When we were walking back to the Spanish Town Square from lunch, our guide, Omar Brooks, showed us his house (just a block from his work) -- there were several people in front. I asked permission to take a picture of his house with him in front, and one of the other guys starting shouting "Don't take my picture" -- so I told him Omar gave me permission, but he could move so he wouldn't be in the picture. He had on fire engine red baggy pants, a red cap (worn backwards), no shirt, but a heavy belt of some silvery metal links -- very much like a "homey" back in the states. Tamara started messing with him -- told him he looked "groovey" -- and he laughed saying "I'm groooooo --vey, just like in the moooooooo --vies". He was quite a character -- but he wouldn't let me take his photo!

Stormy skies over Spanish Town Square

The Jamaican Archives

These girls are happy with the crayons we just gav them.

The Iron Bridge

You go past this bridge coming and leaving Spanish Town.  It is the first cast iron bridge built in the New World, dating back to 1801.  It spans the Rio Cobre.  Sorry about the photo quality -- I shot it from a speeding car.
