We occasionally, though very sporadically, send out news of the pyrate world via the Cyber Seas. These online broadsheets are free to all who ask to join the email crew, though they are intended as a supplement to our "No Quarter Given" magazine. If you wish to join the email crew, or have news to share, just contact us. Notices are sent out irregularly, as piratical news warrants (and we have time), but they tend to come out about once or twice per month. Below are some past email notices. MID-JANUARY PIRATE UPDATE
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Steve Bartell Memorials
The Pirate Code on NGC
Greenwood County Hist. Soc. Talk
Charleton Heston "Treasure
Island" DVD
and much more
...
Greetings Shipmates,
We, and a lot of other fellow sea rovers, had a rollickin' time last Saturday
night at the Pre-PyrateCon/Pre-Pirate Invasion Party. On the sand, under
the stars, listening to the surf nearby, it was perfect for a mid-Winter
rendezvous of rogues. Though brisk, it wasn't too cold -- just enough to
allow pirates to show off their fancy coats that are usually too warm at summer
events. Several of the actors from the various Pirates of the Caribbean
movie were there. Four of the contestants from Pirate Master were on hand:
Kendra, Laurel, Azymyth, and Jupiter. Kapt. Kula's Pyrat Party band warmed
up the party with his fun pirate music, then handed it over to the
highly-energized and crazed Pirates Charles. Pirates kicked it up and
danced on the sand around the bonfires. Familiar pirate movies and
episodes of Pirate Master played on a large screen behind the musicians. A
promotional DVD about PyrateCon was played. If this is any sign, it bodes
well that PyrateCon will be a very fun event.
Speaking of PyrateCon, in the just mailed out November/December issue of
No Quarter Given, a retraction is needed: On pg. 8, Mitch Toles has NOT
left the PyrateCon organization.
And yes, an issue (November/December 2007) of No Quarter Given was mailed a week
ago. The January/February 2008 issue will be out in a few weeks. We
decided to skip the March/April, May/June, July/August, and September/October
2007 issues, rather than try to catch up. We have moved everyone's
subscription up by four issues (eight months) so you will get all the issues you
paid for.

STEVE BARTELL
***********************************
January 26, 2008: Barnacle Bart's Pirate Pub Wake
Long Beach, CALIFORNIA 9:00pm - Midnight. Barnacle Bart aka Private Hell,
real name: STEVE BARTELL, sailed away to Fiddler's Green Saturday January 5,
2008. His passing saddens many that knew him, but all that did are happy he was
with us, though we wish we could have had more time together. Steve was a real
Renaissance man, graphic artist, writer, poet, musician, actor, comedian. He was
a member of the Fool's Guild, performed as a drummer/percussionist with the
American Civil War era musical troupe, The Band Of The California Battalion and
was the official drummer/percussionist with Kapt. Kula's Pyrat Party Band. The
KKPP Band will miss him dearly and want to honor him by declaring their next gig
(one that Steve was scheduled to play on) his wake. There are other memorials
planned as well, but I don't think all of Steve's friends could fit in one room.
Come share your memories, photos etcetera of Steve with us. Dress as a pirate
and toast our comrade and friend Barnacle Bart with his favorite, Sailor Jerry's
Rum.
This gathering will be at our home port pub, the Pike

GREENWOOD LOCAL HISTORICAL TALK
ON PIRATE HISTORY JAN. 20th
Greenwood, South Carolina
*******************************
Greenwood County Historical Society presents “Pirates
of the Carolinas” at its 2:30 p.m. meeting Sunday. The program will be in the
fellowship hall of Main Street United Methodist Church. Accounts of such
maritime rogues as Blackbeard, Stede Bonnet, Anne Bonney and others will be
recounted.
Principal speaker will be Mike Brown, of Charleston,
author and professional presenter on the lore of coastal waters off both
Carolinas. Brown recently was featured on a program produced by South Carolina
Educational Television, a program that had its premiere in November. A part of
ETV’s “Carolina Stories” series, it was titled “Pirates of the
Carolinas.”
Brown attended the College of Charleston, where he
cultivated his interest in piracy in general, and more specifically, in the
“Golden Age of Piracy” (1670-1700). His initial research culminated in the
development of Charleston’s popular Pirates and Buccaneers Walk, which focuses
on pirates who prowled the waters off the “Port City.”

PUSH FOR CHARLTON HESTON "TREASURE ISLAND" DVD
**********************************************
[John Bourdage wrote to TNT as follows:]
Sirs;
Just a short note to ask if there are any plans on releasing your film
"Treasure Island", starring Charlton Heston and Christian Bale, onto
DVD in the near future? This has to be the best version ever filmed and
I'm surprised it hasn't been released yet. Would love to see it released
all remastered, uncut, and with all the goodies that comes with DVDs.
I absolutely love this film and would love to see this happen and to get my
mitts on a copy.
Thank you for your time.
John Bourdage
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The ANSWER:
Dear Mr. Bourdage. Thanks very kindly for your query about Treasure Island DVD
release, and your gracious compliments on the film. I thought I’d respond
myself, since you had so many nice things to say. I agree with you – it’d be
wonderful to have this film released on DVD, unfortunately Turner (now a
subsidiary of Time Warner has (so far as I’m aware) no plans to do so, and
since it was originally filmed for TV (Ted Turner’s fledging TNT network, back
in 1989) it’s probably not worth the considerable expense of doing so now. Sad
to say. Thanks very kindly for your sentiments, however, and for taking the time
to contact us.
Kind regards,
Fraser C. Heston
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[John Bourdage suggests those interested to contact TNT:]
tnt@turner.com
Maybe if we can all get to emailing these folks demanding this excellent film be
released onto DVD, we will see it happen. Get everybody ... to start writing TNT
to request this film be released onto DVD. They will listen if enough of us get
involved and contact TNT. You can also go to TCMs website to request movies.
Request this film be released onto DVD. The more we do this the better chance we
have to seeing it through to a positive conclusion.

PIRATES RECOVER PLUNDER
************************
From the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Dated 11/29/07
http://blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/thebigblog/archives/126888.asp
The Seattle Seafair Pirates appear to be the latest
victims of a criminal trying to profit from stolen metals.
Earlier this month, the six gold-plated cannon barrels
from their ship, the Moby Duck, were found dumped in West Seattle. Seattle
Seafair Pirate Mark Jensen said besides the rust that damaged the six barrels,
someone tried to scrape off the plating on some and discarded the barrels after
realizing they were steel, not brass.
The barrels were stolen in October from a
since-demolished warehouse near Qwest Field where their World War II amphibious
landing craft was stored.
Among other items, copper wires were also stolen from
the warehouse and flagpoles were stolen from a Lincoln Town Car the pirates use
during parades.
Jensen said the pirates found a saw, wire and pipe
cutters among tools left in the warehouse.
The Seattle police burglary unit was investigating the
crime, but additional information was not immediately available Thursday.
Metal theft has increased in the past few years as thieves targeted public
utilities and private businesses for loads of copper, brass or aluminum, costing
taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars, according to law enforcement officials.
Jensen said all the gold-plated cannons, which were
installed on the ship in 1970, need to be replated at a cost of about $3,500.
The pirates have received about $1,000 in donations and plan to give a reward to
the Seattle man who found the cannons Friday.

DIGITAL PLAYGROUND ANNOUNCES
OFFICIAL TITLE FOR PIRATES II: STAGNETTI'S REVENGE
*******************************
Film is the Sequel to the Blockbuster Adult Feature "Pirates"
January 7, 2008 --- VAN NUYS, Calif. --- In a
much-anticipated announcement, Digital Playground's Samantha Lewis and Joone
revealed today that the next installment of the groundbreaking Pirates feature,
Pirates II: Stagnetti's Revenge will begin production in early 2008. Digital
Playground contract superstar Jesse Jane® returns as renowned pirate hunter and
first-mate Jules. New additions to the Pirates II cast include Digital
Playground contract stars: Shay Jordan(TM), Adrianna Lynn(TM), Stoya(TM) and
Katsuni. Evan Stone returns as rogue pirate hunter Capt. Edward Reynolds, and
reprising his role as renegade pirate Capt. Victor Stagnetti is Tommy Gunn.
Directed by Joone, and produced by Samantha and Joone, the film will be released
by Digital Playground throughout the world in Fall 2008.
Samantha Lewis, Digital Playground CEO states, "Joone
and I are very excited. The 'Pirates II' script is brilliant and promises to
exceed all expectations. Another epic feature in the making, this film will
dazzle existing fans and captivate new ones."
Joone comments, "'Pirates II' has creatively turned
out to be a much bigger film than the first one. We have been working on just
the visual FX alone for more than a year. The fans will not be
disappointed."
Pirates was hailed as the largest and most comprehensive
movie in the history of adult films. The most expensive adult effort yet
produced, the feature was lauded with awards from every associated panel,
notably a record-breaking 13 from AVN to date, including Best Selling and Best
Renting title honors. Building upon the success of the film within its
traditional market, the studio received an additional R-rating from the Motion
Picture Association of America, thus gaining mainstream recognition and
distribution, making a theatrical release of a Pirates sequel imminent. Pirates

Whydah Shipwreck Updates
Help Raise the Sails
and much more ...
Greetings Shipmates,
Hope you all had a very joyous Holiday season, and will have a great, prosperous
New Year. It's been a while since I've written, so I have a ship-load of
news for ya.
A lot of you have been writing asking if we've capsized here at No Quarter
Given. We did run aground for a time being, but have broken free again.
Due to a complex of events (lost my helper, computer problems, a very busy show
schedule), and personal situations (the big one being my mother broke her hip,
has moved in, and I took over the care of her many animals and my invalid
brother, and we are preparing her big rambling house for sale). Despite my
having left the day job of teaching, all these other demands have kept NQG from
getting back on schedule. The last issue that has come out was the Jan/Feb
2007 issue. Rather than trying to catch up, we are going to skip the March
through Sept. 07 issues. The next issue (should be mailed out on Tuesday)
will be the Nov/Dec 2007 issue. We will move everyone's expiration date up
by 8 months (4 issues), so everyone will get the six issues they have paid for.
We did have a very successful L.O.R.E. weekend of workshop classes last October
... at least it was successful on Saturday. Then overnight the winds from
Hell broke out, and blew all Sunday, continuing all the next week (leading to
the Fire Storm of 2007). Still we were able to move indoors and hold
modified versions of most of the Sunday pirate classes before the park was
closed for safety concerns. We will host L.O.R.E. classes again March 15th
and 16th.
http://www.renaissanceinfo.com/lore.html
We are putting together our schedule for 2008, and are excited by our plans.
One of the first events you'll find NQG at is the Estrella SCA War (Feb. 12-18,
Florence, AZ). In April, we will return to New Orleans for PyrateCon 2008,
where we will be speakers and vendors. Starting in June, we plan a long
trip up and down the West Coast, first going up to 2nd Annual Northern
California Pirate Festival, then following the tall ship festivals from
Victoria, BC, to Tacoma, WA, back to Port Alberni, BC, then later to Southern
California tall ship festivals (Oxnard, Los Angeles, and San Diego). We
will still appear at a lot of the usual events in Southern California. For
details on these and lots more events, visit our "On the Horizon"
events page at: http://www.noquartergiven.net/calendar.htm

There have been many changes at the home museum in Provincetown, the Expedition
Whydah Sea-Lab and Learning Center. Many new and exciting displays have been
created.
http://www.whydah.com/
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
News from the Expedition Whydah newsletter:
Equally important—if not more so-- are new developments in our
ongoing efforts to recover the treasures of the Whydah!
With the acquisition of the Vast Explorer and improved sensing
gear, we have undertaken increasingly sophisticated underwater archaeological
testing work over the past few years. As a result, we have learned that the
Whydah site is far more complex than originally thought.
These efforts bore fruit this summer. Indeed, Barry describes this
as the most exciting season he’s had since his original discovery of the
Whydah in 1984!
Beginning last May, we spent virtually the entire dive season
on an area that was perhaps ten feet in diameter, but which held an
extraordinarily high concentration of artifacts.
Aside from hundreds of other artifacts
such as coins and concreted pistols, we recovered three cannon, a huge
concretion--weighing nearly 11,000 pounds--that contains at least seven more
cannon, and one of the ship’s stoves. This stove may be the actual
“caboose” Henry David Thoreau described in his book Cape Cod.
And we are by no means finished with this ten-foot area!
More from the Expedition Whydah newsletter:
As you may have noticed, we have given the website an “Extreme
Makeover”—we are not only uploading some of the most popular pages from the
past—as well as a vastly expanded web store <http://store.whydah.com/>
— but the future will bring even more
exciting and interactive features!
Barry has also completed two new books for The National
Geographic Society—Real Pirates, a companion volume for the Real Pirates
exhibition, as well as a childrens’ book that is due out in March. Also in
production are a multi-media DVD and other multi-media and print projects.
mainstream book sources. I'm in the middle of reading it now. It paints a
detailed picture of what the Spanish Main was like during the late 17th century,
illustrating the life of the buccaneers, the Spanish they preyed on, and other
inhabitants of the Caribbean. Look for a review of this excellent book in an
From 20minutoes.es http://www.20minutos.es/noticia/327020/0/piratas/caribe/lepe/ <http://www.20minutos.es/noticia/327020/0/piratas/caribe/lepe/> (translated by AltaVista)~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"The North American producer, Walt Disney Pictures, is negotiating
with the City Council of Lepe so that next autumn the natural place
Arrow of New Shade can be used for filming the new Pirates of the
Caribbean, according to an official notice.
The Arrow of New Shade, 18 kilometers from the coast, is considered
by Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films a suitable place
for the filming of a good part of the images for the new pirate
adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow and his companions Will Turner and
Elizabeth Swann.
In addition to the beach of New Shade, that has intact dunes and the
typical Mediterranean vegetation of these places, the producer has considered of great importance that less than ten kilometers away is ample hotel infrastructure.
The City Council of Lepe values Walt Disney Pictures' interest in the
beaches of Lepe for this new production, for the economic benefit and
the arrival of equipment for something more than 300 people, as well
as the tourist promotional value that it will have for the
municipality and the fact that the location would appear in the
credits of the film.
The agreement between the City Council of Lepe and Walt Disney Pictures with Jerry Bruckheimer Films, that is predicted to be signed
next March, will not include an economic contribution from the producer to the City of Lepe but the filming will provide publicity
and hiring of the extras that are necessary.
Also, it is predicted that Gore Verbinski will direct again. A small
scene is included that will be filmed in the old house of the captain
of ______ of New Shade, in which three historical pirates of the
Iberian Peninsula - Bartolomeo, the Portuguese; Alí Romero, the
Berberisco; and the Spaniard, Abraham Samuel, offer a glass of
