Port Royal Privateers Invade

San Juan Capistrano Mission

October 28th, 2000

The San Juan Capistrano Mission is protected by some stalwart clerics.
(Jerry Reyes portrays a Spanish monk)

One of Bouchard's men tries to "persuade" the head cleric - "We're not pirates, just peaceful sea farers come ta visit yer fine Mission."
(the pirate is Louie Lambie)

The lyin' dog draws his sword, but the monk is ready for him with his trusty quarterstaff

The monk gives Louie a lesson in humility as he doubles over from a blow to the midriff. A second blow and Louie's sword goes flying.

Swordless, Louie is at the monk's mercy.

This monk is not feeling very merciful at the moment and . . .

. . . over he goes.

Perhaps the monk is giving him the last rites.

Back on his feet, and somewhat recovered,  the pirate confronts the monk again.

Alas, the quarterstaff breaks in half, and the pirate makes good use of the half he retains.

As the other pirates close in, a vaquero comes to the monks rescue.

Still swordless, Louie makes good use of his quarterstaff half (an eighthstaff?)

Ooooopphh!  A boot to the gut does wonders for the digestion.

Hippolyte Bouchard leads in the rest of his pirate crew, and confronts the few  vaqueros and Spanish soldiers that remain standing.
(Duane Matthews portrays Bouchard)

Surveying the Spanish carnage.

Victorious,  Hippolyte's pirates take over the Mission.

Some of the Spanish soldiers and vaqueros are miraculously revived after the battle (we heard that the Mission brandy had some special curative properties).

A bit o' Spanish Brandy may be good for ya, but beware o' taking too much or  yer eyes will start ta cross!!
